beneath the mask.

My sign is Taurus. My spirit animal is a deer. And if I were a type of bean, I’d be Lima.

A poster on the wall of my 4th grade classroom stuck with me: “Your character is who you are when no one is watching.” It’s easier to define my personality with online quizzes, but they tell me nothing about my character. At all times, I try to be helpful, kind, and respectful. If I see a problem, I try to fix it. I excel in team environments, and I work hard to create great designs. I hold myself accountable to be the best I can be when no one is watching. I’m not perfect, and I will always strive to continue to grow and learn from my mistakes.

But, if you really want to know, my Hogwarts house is Hufflepuff.

birth of a wish.

While teaching English in South Korea, I learned a lot about communication. My students were amazing, and their skill level ranged from beginner to expert in English. Still, in every class, there were times when I found myself lecturing to a wall of blank faces. When words, gestures, and pictures failed, I had to find new ways to convey the lessons and engage the students. I learned a lot in Korea, but being able to tailor my classes to each student's interests and ability level was a skill I had to develop quickly. I used my understanding of my students to present information in the best way possible. This was the beginning of my career in design.

I do my best problem solving in my thinking cap.

My favorite part about being a teacher was connecting with my students. I was always looking for new ways to excite them with English. To do this, I experimented with my curriculum, teaching style, and classroom management. I learned about what each of my students liked, and tailored lesson plans for each classroom. As a designer, not much has changed. I'm always looking for things to fix in products. I experiment with my process to find the best way to solve problems. I tailor each of my designs to address user needs. While my profession has changed, my passion has not. That is what made me a great teacher and what drives me to become an even better designer.
